Success comes easier in the world out there if one is a King in two T’s - Thinking and Talking. Here’s one chance for you to pit yourself against the best of the best in these skills. If negotiations, case analyses and debates are your cups of tea, Drishtikone will excite you. Think on your feet and knock the opponent off his. One of the highlight events of this year’s Vista, this will sure be a spectator’s delight.

Participation in the event is by invite only.
 
Format:

The competition will be held in three phases:

Phase I: Teams (of 2) are required to mail a soft copy of the one page write up on the debate topic to Fifteen teams shall be shortlisted to take part in the next rounds at Vista.

Phase II: The shortlisted teams shall take part be part of a negotiation round; 6 teams will further move on to a case analysis round from which 2 teams will move to the Grand Finale.

Phase III: The Grand Finale (of two teams) shall be a parliamentary debate.
Rules:
  • The topic for the debate in Phase 1 is  “Brand endorsements by celebrities are no longer valuable to firms.”  Teams are expected to write both for and against the topic on the same one page sheet. Teams can attach an appendix where they can describe their stand and arguments in greater depth and with more data.

  • The number of members in a team is 2. All team members must belong to the same institute.

  • The file sent should be in .pdf format.

  • The participants are required to send only a soft copy of their entry to the following mail id:

  • Acknowledgement of the receipt of the soft copies of entries would be sent within 24 hours of the receipt of the papers.

  • The last date for receipt of entries has been advanced to 28th September, 2008.

  • The soft copies should be typed in Microsoft Word, with 1.15/1.5 line spacing and font Times New Roman, size 11/12.

  • Each entry should have a cover page mentioning names of the participants, the institute they belong to, e-mail ids and telephone numbers of the participants. This cover page shall be detached before the one page write up is given for evaluation. The names of the participants or the institute they belong to should not appear anywhere on the one page write up.

  • The teams selected for the subsequent rounds will be reimbursed AC III tier, two-way train travel expense. The reimbursement will be for the shortest route between the members' institute and Bangalore. Team members are required to present a copy of their tickets for reimbursements. In case of a flight journey, reimbursements will be made only on producing original boarding passes. Reimbursements will be capped at INR 2000 (to and fro) for distance less than 700 Km (one way distance) and INR 6000 (to and fro) for distance greater than that.

  • The decisions of the organizers of the contest and the panel of judges will be final and will be binding on all the participants.
The entries received will become the property of the organizers.
The following is a detailed description of the rounds that are going to be held as part of Drishtikone.

Round 1: Tripartite Negotiation

The case-let for negotiation shall be given on the spot. The rules for the negotiation are given below.



Round 2: Case Analysis

The case for this round has been attached. Only the Top 9 teams from the previous negotiation round shall move into this round. Each team shall have a maximum of 5 minutes to present their analysis to our Jury after which the floor shall be open for questions.



Round 3:

The Top 2 teams from the Case Analysis shall go onto a Parliamentary Debate. The rules of the Parliamentary Debate are attached. The Topic for the finals is, "It is the end of the American Era"



For the rounds at Drishtikone, it would be desirable if the participating teams came in Western Formals. It would also be great if you could get your laptop and a pen drive.
